Raring to get out in the field…

But first, we need to be a bit indoorsy. Yesterday and today, we had some orientation, administration and some classroom lectures to ensure that everyone is on the same page in terms of project goals, objectives, background area of the cultural history of the region in which we are working, how recording and forms work.

We are cosy in the classroom, but I know everyone is eager to get out in the field!

We took a little walking tour of campus in the afternoon on Monday. All our field school students are currently attending Trent, and are familiar with the campus, however, we dived down into some of the past traces and secrets remaining on the landscape if you know where and how to look.

James quizzing the students about the function of this mysterious feature on the landscape…does anyone reading know or remember what this feature is located behind the Trent sign? The answer might surprise you!

Today I spent most of the day working on reports in my office while James covered survey techniques, methodology and basic concepts. Turns out SOH CAH TOA and the Pythagorean Theorem are useful beyond Grade 10 math class! Tomorrow we head out to site to start excavations, we are excited to see what we learn this season!
