We had lots of tasks to sort out today. The Ladybugs met in the Arch Centre to work on their mapping exercise using the points they collected earlier in the week. Next week they are going to be moving to a new part of the site to investigate an intriguing hole. The rest of the crews unpacked the trailer and got to work.
This took us until late morning, and then everyone reconvened on site because it was time for some visitors, representatives from the Peterborough chapter of the Ontario Archaeological Society. Best of all, they brought pizza! They talked with our students about the goals of the Ontario Archaeological Society, the fall symposium, opportunities for research dissemination and volunteering, and the importance of archaeological ethics. Archaeological license holders in Ontario must demonstrate that they are members of an archaeological organization that holds ethical principles.
Since it is the Victoria Day long weekend, we decided it was a short day. After packing up the site we released the students (tests in hand) for a glorious start to the summer season and a well-deserved rest. We’ll be back on Tuesday!
